HydroSKIN zweifach prämiert bei den ICONIC AWARS 2023 des Deutschen Rat für Formgebung in den Kategorien “Best of Best | Innovative Architecture | Product Façade Design” und “Winner | Innovative Material”
HydroSKIN stellt ein revolutionäres Konzept für die Klimaanpassung von Gebäuden zur Minderung von urbanen Hochwasser- und Hitzerisiken dar: Die leichte, textile Hülle nimmt das windgetrieben schräg auf die Gebäudefassade treffende Regenwasser auf und entlastet damit die Kanalisation. Die Nutzung des gesammelten Regenwassers im Gebäude für Toilettenspülung, Waschmaschinenbetrieb und Pflanzenbewässerung reduziert den gebäudeinternen Frischwasserverbrauch um bis zu 45%. In Hitzeperioden wird Wasser in die textile HydroSKIN zurückgeführt, wo durch Verdunstung Gebäudeinnen- und Stadtraum nachhaltig gekühlt werden. Diese Technologie prämierte die Jury gleich zweimal mit dem Statement:
"The University of Stuttgart’s HydroSKIN project offers a visionary approach for protecting cities against the consequences of extreme weather. The honeycomb structure of the panels and their multi-layer construction comply with the principle »Form Follows Function« and were put to outstanding use in a visually effective façade design. In heavy rain, the building’s shell is able to absorb rainwater and store it in a central space for subsequent use. If external temperatures get particularly high, water can be conducted through the panels’ fine fibre-based material, enabling them to contribute to cooling the building and its surroundings based on the principle of evaporation."
