50 years ago, the Olympics took place in Munich. On the occasion of this anniversary VDI and the ILEK of the University of Stuttgart want to honour the world-famous Olympic roof. This extraordinary roof construction was the result of the
collaboration of the architects Frei Otto and Günter Behnisch with the structural engineers Fritz Leonhardt and Jörg Schlaich. Frei Otto managed the Institute for Lightweight Structures in Stuttgart from 1964 to 1991.
Werner Sobek with the former institute of Jörg Schlaich and Fritz Leonhardt formed the Institute for Lightweight Design and Construction (ILEK).
The lecture will present the influence of the above-mentioned planners on modern architecture and show how their cultural heritage can still serve as an inspiration for sustainable and future-oriented construction. What better place for this lecture than the ILEK building itself.
The speaker has chaired the ILEK since 2020.
Monday, 14 November 2022, 6:00 p.m. as a presence lecture at the ILEK, Pfaffenwaldring 14, 70569 Stuttgart.
