CURRICULUM VITAE


Maria Matheou, a junior professor at the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design, leads the A07 subproject within SFB1244 which is funded by the DFG. Her research focuses on designing an adaptive kinetic facade to improve kinetic behavior, daylighting performance, and tackle urban heat islands through these systems. In addition to her academic role, Maria Matheou instructs design studios, focusing on transformable and interactive architecture following an integrated architectural design approach. With over 10 years of experience in architectural technology and building construction, Maria Matheou's research interests revolve around architectural and structural design, kinetic architecture, adaptive structures and envelopes, automation systems, design methods, and digital tools.

She earned her B.Sc. in Architecture in 2009, a Diploma of Architect–Engineer with honors of Excellence in Architectural Design in 2010, and a Ph.D. in Architecture in 2014, all from the University of Cyprus. During her post-doctoral research at the University of Cyprus, she delved into motion planning, simulation, and experimental studies of a kinetic hybrid structure. Prior to joining the University of Stuttgart, she worked as a Research Associate, collaborating with mechanical and civil engineers from McGill University, the National Technical University of Athens, and the University of Salerno.
