As a prominent prelude to the activation of the important IL collections from the time of Frei Otto, Fritz Leonhardt and Jörg Schlaich, IL 34 "The Model" by Jos Tomlow is available for download since August 5, 2023. This dissertation, supervised at the IL by Frei Otto together with Rainer Graefe, was published in the IL Mitteilungen in 1989, second examiner was Jürgen Joedicke.
Emerging from a request by renowned exhibition designer Harald Szeemann for the concept exhibition Der Hang zum Gesamtkunstwerk, Kunsthaus Zürich 1983, this unique work deals with the reconstruction of Antoni Gaudí's hanging model for the Colonia Güell church in Barcelona, of which only the crypt was built. Jos Tomlow's dissertation edition is in three languages, Spanish, English and German, and contains many illustrations, including historic photographs of the lost hanging model for Antoni Gaudí's Colonia Güell church. The reconstruction created at the IL now belongs to the Caixa Foundation and is housed in the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia Museum in Barcelona.
In the future, the forty volumes of the IL publications are to be indexed with metadata and, as far as legally possible, published permanently via the Internet pages of the University Library and the ILEK. For this purpose, among others, a funding application was submitted to the German Research Foundation together with the University Library in the LIS program for literature supply and information systems.
